Christmas is a magical time filled with joy, wonder, and cheerful melodies. For preschoolers, the festive season brings about an opportunity to engage in delightful activities, and one of the most cherished traditions is singing Christmas songs. These timeless tunes by All Right not only spread holiday cheer but also offer a fantastic way to introduce young learners to the English language.

S-A-N-T-A | Super Simple Songs

It’s not Christmas without Santa Claus, Father Christmas, or St Nicholas. Whatever you prefer to call him, this is our favorite way to learn about Santa with your class. Kids love these songs and the clapping elves. It’s a really easy song to learn, and I sing it in most of my Christmas lessons. You could introduce it with a spelling game like Hangman to see if the children can guess what they are going to be learning about.

Use it as part of an activity to introduce and describe Santa.

  • What does Santa look like?
  • What does he wear?
  • And what does he do?

You could learn the song with the class and then ask them to draw a picture of Santa. Alternatively, for older kids, write a description together. This is also a great sing-along song to sing at Christmas shows and concerts and get everyone to join in with.

Boom Chicka Boom Christmas  | The Learning Station

This is a fun way to review all the different things you have been learning about Christmas and have a good dance before saying goodbye for the holidays. Get the kids up and dancing along as they learn the vocabulary for different Christmas objects and actions to go along with them. From reindeer to glitter with lots of funny dances and sound effects. Although these songs are a bit corny, kids love singing along with them and doing all the actions.

What Do You Want for Christmas? | Maple Leaf Learning

Let us write a letter to Santa asking for gifts, then adapt this song to fit the theme. How many different toys can they think of to add to their list? You could play a memory chain game using this list: "For Christmas, I want a ball." Go around the class and let each child add an item after they have said the list. Alternatively, get the kids to ask each other what they want for Christmas so they can make lists. Let each child pretend to be Santa trying to remember his list and adding more items—Sophie wants a teddy, Jack wants a computer game—or ask each other what they want for Christmas.

Silly Santa | Christmas Song for Kids by Maple Leaf Learning

This song is hilarious, and if you cut out a picture of Santa and make some clothes for him, you could make this into a pin-the-clothes-on-Santa game where you sing along and see what he forgets to wear. You could also add some extra accessories like his beard, a sled, a reindeer, or an elf. This way, the kids can use their imaginations and create a whole Santa's workshop or Santa's sled, and see what else Santa forgets. Poor Santa!

10 Little Elves | Christmas Song for Kids by Super Simple Songs

After learning everything there is to know about Santa, you can learn what actually happens in his workshop, including who makes your Christmas presents and how they do it. This song has a ton of helpful activities that you can do with your class as you count the elves in Santa's workshop. Assist them in making the toys by sewing, painting, sawing, and hammering before wrapping them up ready to be delivered. You could even set up a classroom workshop where the students create cardboard models of toys to act out being elves. Alternatively, you could create some actual Christmas cards or presents for the children in your class and cut, glue, and decorate them.

Let’s Build a Gingerbread House | Sara Womack

Build your own gingerbread house in class, either out of real gingerbread or out of cardboard, and decorate it with as many different things as your kids can think of. Do not forget to learn all the actions together using lots of TPR as you do it. Building a gingerbread house together is also a great way to learn the vocabulary for different parts of the house practically. We used this song as part of my Gingerbread Man lesson plan, which is perfect for a lesson around Christmas time. However, you could use it in lots of other Christmas lessons too.

The Christmas Tree Song | KidsTV123

Is there a Christmas tree in your classroom? If so, what needs to be decorated? What is missing? This song will teach you about all the different decorations you can add to your tree, including lights, baubles, and tinsel. You can also decorate your own tree in class or have the students make cards for families to take home. Have the students draw and then describe their trees to one another. What is on it? Does it look nice?

Christmas Freeze Dance | The Kiboomers

"Christmas Freeze Dance" by The Kiboomers is a lively and festive song that encourages kids to dance and then freeze when the music stops. It's a fun way to get children moving and engaged while celebrating the holiday season. Teachers can design activities around the song, such as creating their own freeze dance sessions, organizing discussions about favorite holiday traditions, or even encouraging students to draw or write about their own Christmas celebrations.

Conclusion

In the festive season's cheer and excitement, the incorporation of these delightful Christmas songs adds a special magic to the learning experience of preschoolers. All Right is sure that each song not only spreads joy but also serves as a gateway to engagingly exploring the English language.
