What is a normal pace for learning vocabulary at different ages?
Answer:
A healthy pace is when a child can actually use new words in speech, rather than just memorising word lists with no connection to the topic. For ages 5–7, this usually means 3–5 active words per lesson; for ages 9–12, up to 10 words. With younger children, we spend more time revisiting familiar vocabulary through new games, while with older learners, we can expand topics more quickly if they practise regularly.
